Information About Joining
Welcome to Judo Excellence , we really hope your child enjoyed their judo class. Judo Excellence has been running for over 20 years and has taught 1000's of students, who have enjoyed judo for many different reasons some for recreation, to meet friends, to get fitter or just for fun, some to aim for the Black Belt, some to compete locally, national and some internationally. Whatever the reason we aim to provide the best experience we possibly can.
1. What are the fees?
The training Fees are paid monthly by standing order, £25 per month for 1 Class per week or £30 per month for 2 Classes per week. Once you complete the joining form below we will send you the bank details for you to set up the standing order.
2. What about the uniform?
Membership includes a FREE judo kit that you will receive after you join.
3. What about the belts/ gradings
We aim for 3 or 4 gradings per year and they take place during the lessons, this involves the students demonstrating techniques and skills they have learned to the standard required. Students under 8 progress through SHO grades (a belt with a stripe through the centre) and over 8's progress through mon & kyu grades (full coloured belts).
4. What about the insurance
Everybody who takes part in judo are required to join the British Judo Association, this is the main governing body for judo. This costs £20 per year, this includes the students insurance, official British grades, access to competitions, a membership pack and a quarterly magazine. British Judo are doing a free introductory membership so its free for the first 3 months. We will send you details about this once you've completed the sign up form.
5 What about the safe guarding
Obviously we take safe guarding very seriously we have an official welfare officer Simon Jackson who works in child mental health and children's counciling, and is highly experienced in this area.
6 Who are the coaches
Tony Devine, former GB international, 6th Dan, 37 years in Judo. Ba(hons) Sport & Fitness, DBS, First Aid, Child Protection.
Garath Howell, 42 years in judo, former British Judo Coach, Judo Black Belt, Karate Black Belt, DBS, First Aid, Child Protection.
Denis Hopley Black Belt, Coach in Training.
For those who show an interest in competitions, we have a competition pathway.
Level 1. Our friendly club competition that we run from our own club, about 3 times per year.
Level 2. Local Club competitions, other clubs run open competitions that students can enter.
Level 3. Regional competitions, West Yorkshire Championships, Yorkshire and Humberside Championships.
Level 4. Nationals
Level 5. Internationals
